Earth Day is April 22, 2021. What Exactly is It and Why Should You Care?

by Jennifer A. Caldwell

Earth Day is annual event which highlights the importance of clean air, water, and land first observed 51 years ago, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Researchers have linked both air pollution and climate change to numerous health problems. The following web page, published by the NY Times, provides detailed information about climate change.

The Science of Climate Change Explained: Facts, Evidence and Proof by Julia Rosen

Earth Day includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EARTHDAY.ORG including one billion people in more than 193 countries. One historic event happening today is President Joe Biden’s Earth Day Summit, bringing together leaders from around the world to pledge to reduce the world’s carbon footprint.

What is a carbon footprint? According to Britannica.com, it is the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with all the activities of a person or other entity. It includes direct emissions, such as those that result from fossil-fuel combustion in manufacturing, heating, and transportation, as well as emissions required to produce the electricity associated with goods and services consumed.

President Biden’s commitment focuses on reducing America’s emissions 50% by 2030 and represents a renewal in the country’s commitment to the environment. Read more here:

The events happening today will bring more awareness to the need to protect our environment and reduce energy consumption, but it does not stop here. People around the world must commit daily to making a change and taking actions like many scientists have done for years. Media outlets must continue to keep everyone aware of what is happening with the efforts being made to impede climate change Companies around the world must all find a way to do their part.

This is why I am proud to have joined Aquanomix this month. The company’s mission directly aligns with President Biden’s goal to spur transformational technologies that can help reduce emissions and adapt to climate change, while also creating enormous new economic opportunities and building the industries of the future. Founded in 2010, Aquanomix is a rapidly growing environmental technology company that delivers water optimization and energy saving platforms for water systems.

Why is water important? Water and energy are interrelated. Water is used in all phases of energy production, and energy is required to extract and move water for human consumption. Energy is also needed to treat wastewater so it can be safely returned to the environment.

Aquanomix’s Symphony™ software, provides real time data to building owners and operators through a single, patented benchmark, known as the Nexus Number™, empowering them to make swift and intelligent decisions which impact water health and energy usage.

As a mother, I take pride in working for a company who is committed to positively impacting the environment not only today, but also tomorrow for my children and grandchildren. From one mother to another, “Earth, I got your back.”

What are YOU doing TODAY to make the earth more sustainable?

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.
