Major Corrosion Avoided in New Life Science Building
A Life Science REIT company partnered with Aquanomix to add Symphony Software solutions into four new life science buildings at one of their San Diego campuses to conserve water and support their sustainability goals
THE ISSUE
Still under construction, Symphony alerted the teams of KPIs that were significantly out of range. The alerts included corrosion rate, turbidity, and flow. The team immediately reviewed the data and determined a water system had been shutdown during an installation. The stagnant water produced conditions suitable to high corrosion and turbidity levels. The water was discolored to the point it looked like coffee.
THE SOLUTION
Aquanomix worked with the building management team and the water treatment contractor to develop a plan for flushing and re-treating the system.
Once the flush was performed, the water treatment contractor applied a corrosion inhibitor to re-passivate the system. After a period of circulation, Symphony showed that data points of concern had returned to normal range.
RESULT
SYMPHONY’S IMPACT:
Identified upset conditions and resolved them immediately
Had no negative impact on energy and water usage
Protected against permanent capital equipment damage
Building was able to begin production, as scheduled
